Abstract
Cet article aborde un épisode bien connu de l’histoire sanitaire du Cameroun: le programme de lutte contre la maladie du sommeil du Dr Eugène Jamot. Il étudie à partir de ce cas comment la médecine fut simultanément, dans le contexte mandataire, un enjeu patriotique et le lieu d’une internationalisation des pratiques et des débats coloniaux. En s’appuyant sur les propositions théoriques de l’histoire croisée, l’article replace le parcours de Jamot au sein d’un chassé-croisé entre médecins allemands et français, qui se succèdent au Cameroun suite à la Première Guerre mondiale. Ce croisement est l’occasion de transferts techniques et de comparaisons internationales. S’entrelacent ainsi l’histoire allemande de la médecine coloniale française, l’histoire médicale du mandat camerounais et l’histoire postcoloniale de la médecine tropicale allemande, qui se redéploie en Europe après 1918.
