L’évolution démographique au Québec et les perspectives économiques à long terme

Abstract
Cette note de recherche met en relation le phénomène du vieillissement de la population avec l’évolution de la situation économique au Québec et en présente quelques implications à partir de scénarios de prévision économique à long terme. Au Québec, le changement démographique sera notable en particulier à partir de 2011 alors que le nombre de personnes âgées de 65 ans et plus va augmenter plus rapidement et que la croissance du nombre de personnes généralement en âge de travailler commencera à décroître. Or, c’est ce dernier groupe d’âge qui est responsable de l’apport de main-d’oeuvre et surtout le principal vecteur de croissance de la consommation, de l’investissement résidentiel et le principal contribuable au financement public.
