Este artículo recoge el estado de la cuestión de la historiografía de las diócesis de la Andalucía Occidental -Cádiz-Ceuta, Córdoba, Huelva, Jerez-Asidonia y Sevilla- y la de Jaén en la Edad Moderna y Contemporánea. A través de esta páginas, nos acercamos a todos los campos en los que actualmente trabajamos los que hacemos historia de la Iglesia: archivos y repertorios bibliográficos, las diócesis, las personas –prelados, cabildos, bajo clero, religiosos y el mundo de los seglares-, rentas eclesiásticas, acción benéfica y caritativa de la Iglesia, religiosidad popular, santoral y hagiografía, expresiones artísticas y el mundo de la heterodoxia –minorías religiosas, Inquisición, anticlericalismo y antimasonismo-. También aparecerán en este trabajo las tendencias y perspectivas de la investigación sobre la historia de la Iglesia andaluza. En definitiva, el largo camino que aún nos queda por recorrer.
