L’œuvre d’André Green a fortifié la pénétration de la pensée freudienne aussi bien dans la culture contemporaine que dans l’étendue géographique de la communauté analytique. Il a rallié à cette cause et à sa rigueur des courants qui tendaient spontanément à s’en éloigner. Entre autres apports, ses recherches sur le travail du négatif ont renouvelé, et quant à leur profondeur théorique, et dans leur portée pratique, les concepts fondateurs de la psychanalyse relatifs aux forces de la répression psychique, à l’inconscient et aux jeux pulsionnels.
