Las tres obras narrativas analizadas aquí (Crimen sin castigo by Juan Carlos García, Retribution by Carmen Rodríguez, and Some thing Fierceby Carmen Aguirre) cuentan con el Golpe de Chile de 1973 como telón de fondo. Los autores emplean diferentes enfoques para conformar su mundo narrativo, produciendo obras muy diferentes entre sí. Carmen Rodríguez termina escribiendo una novela, en tanto que Carmen Aguirre escribe unas memorias mientras Juan Carlos García crea una obra que oscila entre el testimonio y la novela testimonial. Aunque los diferentes enfoques determinan resultados diferentes, los tres autores tratan del trauma ocasionado por las torturas que los protagonistas de las historias padecen, tratan también de encontrar una respuesta a por qué se dio el Golpe de Pinochet, así como de dar un testimonio de los abusos sufridos, de los sacrificios hechos por las víctimas, de la búsqueda de sentido en sus vidas después de vivir la represión y de la necesidad de llevar a la justicia a los perpetradores.
