Abstract
The Honourable J.J. Michel Robert, Chief Justice of Quebec (who has since retired), delivered the keynote speech at the 2011 Constitutional Cases Conference. Chief Justice Robert participated in the discussions and meetings which led up to the patriation of the Constitution in 1982, and also acted as counsel for Canada in the Patriation Reference, the Supreme Court of Canada’s critical 1981 decision on the n Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau’s patriation package. Justice Robert’s reflections offer a distinctive perspective and fresh insight on this process, and highlight the peaceful nature of a revolution which, in his view, transformed our country.
