Abstract
Dans beaucoup de pays européens et au Canada, avant et après la Première Guerre, un mouvement de théâtre catholique travaille pour la réforme de la scène dans sa totalité. Chez les amateurs surtout, la prolifération de troupes, la création de revues et l’établissement d’un répertoire chrétien attestent les mêmes buts mais aussi les mêmes problèmes. Pendant les années 1920-1930 en particulier, l’exemple français s’avère souvent probant. La troupe d’Henri Ghéon, Les Compagnons de Notre-Dame, sert de modèle aux praticiens et la revue d’Henri Brochet, Jeux, tréteaux et personnages, publie des nouvelles sur le théâtre chrétien par exemple en Belgique, en Espagne, en Yougoslavie, au Québec. Leurs pièces sont traduites ou représentées en plusieurs langues. Paradoxalement, malgré cette influence internationale, le succès de leur contribution en France n’est pas toujours au rendez-vous.
