L’article compare les politiques de professionnalisation des enseignants promues au Québec et en Communauté française de Belgique, en les resituant dans leur contexte socio-éducatif plus large et en tenant compte du positionnement des différents acteurs intervenant dans le champ scolaire. Au-delà de spécificités nationales importantes, plusieurs tendances communes sont observables. Dans les deux contextes, on observe notamment une politique de professionnalisation « par le haut » (portée par les élites du système éducatif), formulée dans des termes fonctionnalistes, qui met davantage l’accent sur la professionnalisation de la main d’œuvre que sur celle du lieu de travail et qui va de pair avec une réception ambivalente par les enseignants de la base.
