Cet article traite du parcours des politiques environnementalistes concernant les traditions tutélaires de l’indigénisme au Brésil, d’une perspective « interne » acquise par l’auteur au cours de son travail au sein du gouvernement dans le domaine de l’environnement et de l’indigénisme. Il prend comme point de départ les pratiques de subordination séculaires de la représentation politique indigène dans les sphères étatiques pour développer différents degrés d’analyse. Le résultat est une lecture historique de l’indigénisme tutélaire et de l’environnementalisme conservationniste pratiqués au Brésil, en passant par la création de l’État-nation, la domination des peuples et des terres, la disciplinarisation du milieu rural indigène et environnemental, ainsi que par l’internationalisation des programmes environnementaux : des étapes qui représentent tant l’arrièreplan que la structure du dialogue interethnique actuel.
