Abstract
À partir de l'examen des principales lignes de recherche en sociologie urbaine, l'auteur conclut que celle-ci n'a ni objet théorique spécifique ni objet réel précisément délimité. Il reste cependant à réintégrer dans l'analyse, dans une perspective nouvelle, certains problèmes clefs traités dans la tradition de la sociologie urbaine, en particulier ceux qui concernent l'organisation de l'espace et ceux qui touchent les formes sociales de consommation collective. Dans le premier cas, l'auteur analyse les transformations de l'espace comme une spécification des transformations de la structure sociale, en proposant les éléments du système urbain et les principes de leur articulation. Dans le second, il pose les jalons d'une théorie qui place au centre de son propos l'étude structurale de la planification urbaine.
