Celle-ci ne repose plus que sur un petit nombre de caractères choisis à l’avance, parmi lesquels la disposition et le nombre des organes de la fleur. La botanique devient systématique, pour ne pas dire géométrique. Les qualités sensorielles sont autant que possible exclues de la détermination des espèces.
