Abstract
Healthy Generations was introduced to the membership of the Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) with great fanfare at the 2005 annual conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, as the ‘new-look’ charitable foundation of the CPS. For many, it was perhaps the first time that any significant thought had focused on this aspect of the Society's activities. This will change. Five years from now, we will look back at that moment in Vancouver as the beginning of a vibrant new chapter in the Society's long history, when a 5 km fun run became the starting point for a much longer, and more challenging, event. The Canadian Paediatric Foundation was established in 1985 as a charitable organization to help the CPS fulfill its mission. Funds raised helped the CPS to develop health information for Canadian families and to provide education for those caring for children and youth. Twenty years later, after a record of achievement that was modest at best, the Foundation has been rejuvenated as Healthy Generations, charged by the CPS Board of Directors to develop the financial capacity to support a strategic plan that would achieve the following goals:
