Abstract
According to Bennett et al., approximately 412,000 individuals develop a new pressure ulcer every year in the UK, a quarter of which are European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) grade III or IV. Management costs (excluding hotel costs) range from £1.4 billion to £2.1 billion (UK NHS costs at 2000 prices), although due to the method used to derive the mean values this probably represents an underestimate of the true values and therefore treatment costs.
