Abstract
S'appuyant sur l'Enquête nationale auprès des diplômés (promotion de 2000) et le suivi des diplômés, cette recherche examine qui va obtenir son diplôme et les écoles professionnelles au Canada. Une plus grande proportion d'étudiants se poursuivent à des niveaux plus élevés de l'éducation ces dernières années, mais il reste difficile de savoir si des antécédents familiaux sur ces décisions. Les résultats indiquent que les origines sociales influent sur la fréquentation des études supérieures à la fois directement par le niveau de scolarité des parents et indirectement par l'intermédiaire le rendement des élèves, les aspirations et la confiance académiques. Domaine d'études et de la région de l'institution de premier cycle jouent également un rôle dans le façonnement des résultats scolaires, les étudiants suggérant peut être partiellement ‘libérées’ de leurs antécédents familiaux en vertu de leurs expériences de premier cycle.
