Abstract
Notre objectif est de proposer une approche du rapport entre la femme et le pouvoir qui tienne compte de l’appropriation kinésique de l’espace social par le corps féminin. Dans l’historiographie, la mobilité n’a jamais été un attribut féminin. Culturellement conditionnée pour être passive, la femme, telle qu’elle se donne à lire dans le roman du xix e siècle, se compare à un bibelot fragile et doit attendre celui qui voyage, entreprend, agit — son père, son mari ou son amant. Dans la société où la spatialité est au service du pouvoir, car « les femmes sont à la fenêtre et les hommes sont à la porte » (Zola, Germinal ), la femme qui fait son coming out , en décidant de partir ou en s’aventurant seule dans l’espace urbain, est une personne qui, consciemment ou non, tend vers la confrontation avec l’ordre social. Pouvoir inscrire librement son corps et sa volonté dans l’espace géographique et social n’a rien, pour la femme, d’une distraction futile ; sous les allures d’une hardiesse fantasque, apparaît un acte grave qui engage toute l’existence de la femme. Car il faut y voir non seulement un authentique acte de révolte, mais aussi un geste transgressif qui tient du rite de passage. Après avoir osé franchir, symboliquement, le seuil de sa demeure, rien n’est plus pareil pour la femme ; d’ailleurs, tout changement notable dans son existence commence par un acte : celui de partir, qui lui-même se prolonge en déambulations.
