Abstract
Charlemagne Émile Maupas a laissé peu de traces dans les fonds publics des Archives nationales. Parmi les sources préservées, figurent des registres du ministère de la Police principalement consacrés aux activités de librairie, son dossier de personnel ainsi que des collections de lois, décrets, arrêtés, circulaires. Les dossiers de la police générale – très lacunaires – et ceux de l'imprimerie-librairie – plus complets sauf pour le colportage – donnent un aperçu de l'organisation de l'éphémère ministère de la Police, de ses activités et de ses inflexions. On y découvre les conflits avec le ministère de l'Intérieur, la réflexion sur le contrôle de l'imprimé ou l'intérêt porté à la législation de la propriété intellectuelle.
