La mixité ethnoculturelle grandissante des sociétés convainc la bibliothèque publique d’agir pour une société interculturelle, où les jeunes de tous horizons peuvent grandir dans une égale dignité. Soucieuse de servir ceux qui sont issus de l’immigration ou des minorités visibles, la bibliothèque favorise l’intégration en soutenant la scolarité, l’insertion professionnelle et l’alphabétisation familiale. En réponse à leur besoin de repères, elle présente la société d’accueil et facilite l’apprentissage de la diversité tout en participant à la transmission d’un héritage culturel. Enfin, pour lutter contre le racisme et renforcer le lien social, elle crée le dialogue, suscite la réflexion et la participation citoyenne.
