Abstract
La construction de lieux de culte par des migrants témoigne d’une installation durable dans leur pays d’accueil. C’est le cas des Tamouls d’origine sri lankaise au Canada. L’édification d’un grand temple à Montréal a mobilisé autour de ce territoire symbolique les réseaux de la diaspora tamoule. L’hindouisme çivaïte tamoul constitue pour eux un solide lien identitaire. Soucieux de transmettre les traditions religieuses et les pratiques rituelles qui fondent leur unité, les Tamouls sri lankais savent adapter leurs rites à leur environnement afin d’en préserver le sens et la vivacité.
