Abstract
Proceedings from one of six symposia held during the July 1999 OMAE conference. Seventy-one papers discuss hydrodynamic forces; risers, moorings and cables; ocean wave mechanics; floating and moored systems; offshore structural mechanics; deep water spars; ship dynamics; and offshore foundation mechanics. Specific topics include numerical simulation of flow interference between two circular cylinders in tandem and side by side arrangements; hydrodynamic coefficient estimation for TLP and spar structures; retrieval and deployment of marine tethers; a new, highly efficient deep water drilling rise buoyancy system; GEOSTAR -- first mission results and future perspectives for intervention with heavy deep-sea long-term laboratories; monobuoys for deep water fracture mechanics analysis of offshore structures using the new British standards BS 7910; and effect of porous and solid bilge keels on the response of FPSOs in regular and random waves.
