Cet article considre la relation entre la garde des documents et leur accs en mettant l'accent sur le rle vital que joue l'accs aux documents historiques dans la construction de la mmoire collective.Il explore le principe de la garde des documents tel qu'il a t dvelopp principalement dans le monde anglo-saxon, son arrire-plan historique ainsi que son volution au milieu du XX e sicle en postcustodialism.Enfin il suggre que l'accs doit avoir un rle primordial pour les archivistes ayant la garde des documents dans le sicle qui commence.
