Abstract
Abstract This chapter reviews the literature on how changes in corporations, firms, and markets influence the dynamics of social movements. It describes the concepts of corporate and industry opportunity structure, and looks at the way in which many scholars have set out to measure these concepts in various empirical settings. It also describes a number of recent trends in markets and business, which promise to impact the relationship between movements and the corporate and industry opportunity structures in which they are embedded. We conclude that future research ought to focus more on the interplay between political, industry, and corporate opportunity structures.
