Abstract
Les lecteurs les plus perspicaces l’ont bien vu à l’époque : la contribution de Pierre Elliott Trudeau à l’ouvrage collectif La grève de l’amiante (1956) était atypique eu égard aux autres contributions faites à l’enseigne des sciences sociales. L’essai de Trudeau a l’intérêt d’identifier clairement les enjeux non pas seulement ou d’abord de la grève de 1949, mais ceux du changement en cours. Le « monolithisme idéologique » dont il y est question pointe du doigt le défi de la révolution industrielle au Québec et tout autant les responsables du retard sociologique, d’où le portraitcharge auquel le jésuite Jacques Cousineau ne pouvait pas ne pas réagir.
