O presente artigo descreve, analisa e reflecte a questao do povo cigano e a sua insercao socio-Laboral. De facto, OS ciganos sao frequentemente vistos como um simbolo de resistencia e perseverara, como uma comunidade que, apesar da dispora, lutou para preservar as suas especificidades em termos de estilo de vida, habitos culturais e linguagem. Nao obstante, estas particularidades foram mantidas a custa da sua saudavel integracao nas sociedades dominantes. E, porem, legitimo questionar que oportunidades se desenham para esta comunidade no dealbar da nova sociedade do conhecimento e de uma nova geracao de politicas sociais. O artigo que se publica fruto da conclusao da primeira fase de trabalho da equipa portuguesa do projecto de investigacao Workalo, financiado pela Comissao Europeia.
