Abstract
Jerome Klassen explores Canada’s role in the global system. He rejects the claims of Canada as a “peripheral” or “dependent” economy, and argues that because of the structure of the Canadian economy and the role of its corporations, “it has an independent interest in the new imperialism.” Since the Cold War era, Canada has abandoned its role as a middle power and now plays an important role in Western military alliances, the international financial system, and the institutions of global governance.
