Les Éditions de l’Oeuf, fondées en 1971 par Yrénée Bélanger et Guy M. Pressault, avaient pour objectif d’être au service de la littérature du livre-objet. Cette production éditoriale underground, qui s’inscrit dans le mouvement contre-culturel québécois au tournant des années 1960 et 1970, participe à un certain renouvellement esthétique du livre de poésie basé sur des principes conceptuels de détournement. Par une politique éditoriale qui prône l’usage du livre-objet, et par différentes stratégies qui visent à déplacer, voire à abolir, les hiérarchies culturelles, les éditeurs remettent en question les notions de littérature et de livre. À partir des livres-objets produits par les Éditions de l’Oeuf présents dans la collection patrimoniale de livres d’artistes et d’ouvrages de bibliophilie de Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec, cet article analyse la position des éditeurs face à la littérature et l’apport de la maison à une esthétique du livre de poésie liée à la contre-culture. L’objectif poursuivi est double : souligner l’originalité de la production peu connue de l’Oeuf et rendre compte de quelques moyens employés par les éditeurs-auteurs pour remettre en question la littérature et son principal support, le livre.
