Dans l’espace balkanique, c’est essentiellement en République de Macédoine-ex Yougoslave que le statut des Roms est le meilleur, ou le moins pire. S’ils restent des citoyens de deuxième zone au niveau économique, ils ont obtenu une reconnaissance, déjà sous Tito, mais surtout depuis l’indépendance en 1991 en tant que minorité constitutive, avec leurs partis, leurs députés, leurs média et leur fierté.
