La Asociación Peruana de Protección Familiar fue la organización de mayor importancia en cuanto a la provisión de anticonceptivos en el Perú entre fines de la década de 1960 e inicios de la siguiente. Este artículo analiza los orígenes y trayectoria de dicha institución, que vio la luz gracias a la confluencia de la preocupación de entidades extranjeras por el crecimiento demográfico en países en vías de desarrollo durante el periodo de la Guerra Fría, y a las investigaciones médico-sociales peruanas iniciadas en la década de 1930, que vincularon la pobreza urbana y la mala salud materna a una alta fertilidad y a un crecimiento demográfico mal planificado.
