Abstract
Neste artigo são discutidas as diferentes abordagens sobre a educação de adultos. Partindo do princípio de que a educação de adultos não está voltada somente para a formação para o mercado de trabalho, consideramos que ela constitui um local de aprendizagem sobre, para, durante e após o trabalho. Este trabalho aponta para a ênfase dada à noção de empregabilidade e de vocacionalização da educação, contrastando com as iniciativas formativas que tem como foco a emancipação dos trabalhadores. Para tal, trazemos à tona a experiência do Movimento dos Conselhos de Fábrica de Torino, que constitui um dos exemplos mais radicais sobre a tentativa de organizar e educar para uma democracia industrial que alterasse as relações sociais de produção. Tratamos também sobre movimentos de educação cooperativa realizados em Mondragón, na Espanha, Rochdale, na Inglaterra, Antigonish, no Canadá, e Porto, em Portugal, além das experiências de educação para autogestão da Iugoslávia e Malta.
