Abstract
This study reports on the loss of hydrophobicity of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. Specimens of steam cured XLPE cut from a nominal 28 kV/sub rms/ cable were immersed in saline solutions of varying conductivities from 5 to 10/sup 5/ /spl mu/S/cm over a wide range of temperatures from 0 to 98/spl deg/C. Specimens of XLPE were also left in air over the same temperature range. The hydrophobicity of the surface was determined by measuring the contact angle of a sessile drop of water. The contact angle decreased with increasing conductivity and increasing temperature of the saline solution. The time of immersion in the saline solution was extended up to 3,000 h until the reduced contact angle saturated at all the temperatures and all conductivities. The saturated values of the reduced contact angles and the time they took to reach it, depended on the temperature and the conductivity of the saline solution. In addition, the changes in the weight due to the uptake of water and the surface roughness of the XLPE specimens were determined during immersion. It will be shown that the decrease in the contact angle is related to the increased weight of the specimens and increased surface roughness.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
