Abstract
Bien qui: la pauvreté soit très répandue parmi les citoyens âgés du Canada, et bien que la plupart des associations de femmes ou de personnes retraitées, ainsi que les syndicats aient réclamé l'amélioration des régimes de pensions d'État, les gouvernements fédéral et provinciaux n'ont pu arriver à s'entendre sur un plan de réforme. L'opposition vient des milieux d'affaires qui veulent conserver la mainmise sur les énormes capitaux que représentent les régimes de retraite. Cet article tente de démontrer que le Canada possède amplement les ressources humaines et financières nécessaires pour assurer des pensions suffisantes, maintenant et plus tard, et qu'une politique favorisant de bonnes pensions d'État permettrait d'établir un système économique plus rationnel et une société plus humaine.
