Nous avons choisi de restreindre notre enquête de la contribution des chercheurs québécois aux études littéraires portant sur l’âge classique à l’étude d’un seul cas, celui des collections créées par le Cercle interuniversitaire d’étude sur la République des Lettres (CIERL). Si cet exemple n’offre bien sûr qu’un point de vue partiel, il en représente toutefois un témoin privilégié. De fait, à parcourir le catalogue des Collections, on s’aperçoit à quel point nombre d’auteurs et d’ouvrages se montrent sensibles à la vaste question de la genèse du sujet moderne à partir de pratiques, d’idées et de conduites nouvelles permettant au Moi de se redéfinir. Or, ce sont précisément ces nouveaux visages du Moi qui vont nous intéresser. Qu’il s’agisse d’un Moi réfléchissant sur les passions et la sensibilité, ou encore considérant la façon dont il s’inscrit dans une histoire, ou enfin explorant la voie, plus intime, du journal ou des Mémoires, chaque fois, nous verrons comment ont été problématisées, au Québec, les diverses figures qu’aura revêtues, à l’époque moderne, ce Moi protéiforme.
