Abstract
La enorme expansion del espanol en America del Norte, que obviamente incluye a todo el Canada, esta obligando a las universidades a considerar seriamente la necesidad de actualizar los programas universitarios de licenciatura y de postgrado en letras hispanicas, en cuyas asignaturas se imparten mayormente conocimientos sobre literatura tanto peninsular como latinoamericana en particular y cultura del mundo hispano en general, pero casi nada sobre la linguistica aplicada cuya respetada area de investigacion propone la metodologia a seguir en el proceso de la ensenanza y la adquisicion de lenguas, en nuestro caso del espanol como lengua extranjera.
