Las Guardias Nacionales. Vida militar y cotidiana en Antioquia, 1853-1876

Abstract
Recientemente, el estudio del papel de los civiles armados, y en particular de las Guardias Nacionales en los conflictos políticos del siglo xix, ha despertado un importante interés en los historiadores hispanoamericanos, quienes han analizado tanto la manera como las nuevas Repúblicas concibieron su soberanía nacional como el papel cumplido por las clases dirigentes, regionales y locales, en la creación de órdenes policivos particulares. En consecuencia, es necesario abordar el análisis de un caso específico como el de Antioquia, que permite establecer, a partir de la descripción de conductas y significados propios de una vida policiva-militar, distintas relaciones de las Guardias Nacionales con aspectos propios de la vida regional y local en Colombia, entre 1853 y 1876. La ausencia de producción bibliográfica nacional al respecto determinó la prioridad dada a los archivos históricos, especialmente al uso de la correspondencia entre particulares y las Guardias con el Gobierno provincial y federal en Antioquia. Esa correspondencia describe aspectos como el alistamiento de la Guardias, los usos de los espacios públicos y privados y la función de las Guardias en el ordenamiento social y moral de la región.
