Cet article met en lumière la rupture historique qu’a représentée, dans le champ de la prise en charge de la délinquance juvénile, le centre de rééducation de Boscoville, fondé au début des années 1940 en région montréalaise. Appuyée sur les écrits des principaux fondateurs de l’approche psychoéducative, l’analyse met en relief les innovations théoriques et cliniques développées au sein de cet internat pour délinquants de réputation internationale au cours de ses premières décennies d’existence. L’expérience de Boscoville consacre l’effritement d’un modèle de disciplinarisation et de reconditionnement des mineurs délinquants axé sur la contrainte des corps, la mise au travail et la pratique religieuse. Elle contribue ainsi à une mutation des modes de régulation sociale en favorisant le déploiement d’une nouvelle façon d’envisager le travail sur l’humain par l’investissement de sa dimension psychique.
