Abstract
Les professions peuvent être considérées comme appartenant à la catégorie plus vaste de la main-d'œuvre hautement qualifiée. Elles s'en distinguent cependant par leur capacité à agir comme groupes organisés sur différents mécanismes servant à définir la nature et le degré de la qualification. À la barrière du savoir spécialisé, elles ajoutent d'autres barrières en influençant les conditions d'actualisation de ce savoir sous forme de qualification et les conditions d'utilisation de cette qualification dans la prestation de services. Elles se démarquent ainsi du reste de la main-d'œuvre hautement qualifiée par un degré de fermeture sociale plus important. Ces caractéristiques distinctives des professions sont mises en évidence à travers l'étude de quelques aspects du changement technologique en santé.
