Cet article explore trois aspects du Premier jardin, roman d’Anne Hébert. Dans un premier temps, il étudie les liens qu’ont pu établir les critiques entre l’oeuvre poétique d’Anne Hébert et le thème du premier jardin. Il examine ensuite les parallèles que l’on pourrait tracer entre l’enquête que mène le personnage de Flora Fontanges sur les femmes de la Nouvelle-France et le travail historique d’un pionnier de l’histoire du Canada français, François-Xavier Garneau. Il analyse enfin le personnage qui sert de guide historique à Flora, Raphaël.
