Abstract
Libéré en 1811 sans avoir obtenu le procès qu’il réclamait, Pierre Bédard reprend difficilement ses activités politiques et professionnelles. Le nouveau gouverneur George Prevost lui redonne son titre de capitaine de milice et le nomme, en décembre 1812, juge à Trois-Rivières. Tout en respectant son devoir de magistrat, Bédard reste un conseiller politique et juridique pour les députés du Parti canadien. en 1814, il contribue à la rédaction d’un mémoire des Canadiens au Prince régent et les députés songent à le déléguer en Angleterre. Après l’échec de son mariage, il doit affronter des attaques de la part de ses adversaires et lutter jusqu’à sa mort avec une santé déclinante. Pierre Bédard incarne un chapitre fondamental des premières luttes menées par les Québécois pour leur identité, leurs revendications politiques et les bases de la démocratie.
