Abstract
Este trabalho pretende descrever algumas representações da alteridade indígena em duas personagens que integram o imaginário das Américas. Do Canadá, tomarei a figura do chefe indígena canadense que lideraria a mais importante confederação das tribos contra o domínio britânico, a partir da narrativa Pontiac, l’amour et la guerre, de autoria do escritor ameríndio de origem Cree Bernard Assiniwi. Do Brasil, a figura escolhida é Paraguaçu, filha do chefe indígena Tupinambá que é ofertada por seu pai ao português Diogo Álvares Correia, o Caramuru, o qual a leva à França, onde será batizada, tendo como madrinha a esposa de Jacques Cartier, da qual receberá o novo nome, Catarina. Casada com o Caramuru, serão suas filhas as fundadoras de parte das elites mestiças baianas e brasileiras.Résumé: Ce travail décrit certaines représentations de l’altérité amérindienne, à partir de deux personnages qui font partie de l’imaginaire des Amériques. Du Canada, j´utiliserai la figure du chef indien qui a pris la tête de la plus importante confédération des tribus contre la domination britannique, telle que représentée dans le roman Pontiac, l´amour et la guerre, de l´écrivain amérindien Bernard Assiniwi, d´origine Cree. Du Brésil, la figure choisie est Paraguaçu. Fille d´un chef indien Tupinambá, elle est offerte par son père au portugais Diogo Álvares Correia, le Caramuru, lequel l´emmène en France où elle sera baptisée; sa marraine, qui n´est autre que l´épouse de Jacques Cartier, lui attribuera un nouveau nom: Catherine. Ses deux filles, issues de son mariage avec le Caramuru, seront à l´origine d´une grande partie des élites métisses bahianaises et brésiliennes.
