Abstract
Abstract This report describes innovative methods for sample pretreatment in organic environmental analysis that involve the use of microwave‐assisted techniques. The methods described include: microwave‐assisted extraction (MAE), focused microwave‐assisted Soxhlet extraction (FMASE), microwave‐assisted headspace analysis, microwave‐assisted derivatization (MAD), microwave‐assisted saponification (MAS) and microwave‐assisted decomposition. A brief history of the development of each technique is provided. Reference is made to literature published up to the beginning of 1999.
