Abstract
L'auteur aborde ici le thème de la crise de la représentation politique, c'est-à-dire la mise en question actuelle de la façon dont la politique représente les acteurs sociaux ou les intérêts sociaux. Il décrit d'abord les deux conditions principales pour que les composantes sociales de la population soient représentées politiquement : il leur faut une capacité de s'organiser de façon autonome et de s'exprimer à travers l'opinion publique. En somme, la démocratie a besoin de forces sociales constituées et indépendantes du pouvoir politique et de l'Etat, et d'une opinion publique critique et tolérante. Dans un second temps, l'auteur analyse la crise elle-même de la représentativité, qui se manifeste au niveau des partis, des forces sociales, et de l'opinion publique. La dernière partie de l'essai porte sur les causes de cette crise et sur la façon d'en sortir.
