Abstract
Devant le vieillissement accéléré de la population et la pression accrue sur les services institutionnels, plusieurs systèmes de coordination de services ont été mis sur pied aux États-Unis au cours des années 1970. Le Québec s'est inscrit dans le même mouvement. L'article présente les principaux résultats de l'évaluation du système d'accès mis sur pied en 1983 dans la région du Montréal métropolitain. Le système se révèle lent et très lourd, compte tenu de la fonction qui lui est assignée. De plus, le système se révèle en partie inefficace à prévenir l'hébergement, donc à assurer l'utilisation maximale des ressources alternatives. En fait, ce système ne rencontre pas tous les préalables garantissant le succès de tels systèmes, particulièrement l'accès à un réseau complet de services.
