O caso apresenta uma situação de crise vivenciada por uma empresa que coloca seus dirigentes diante da necessidade de repensar seu plano de cargos, salários e de carreira. Ele está apresentado considerando quatro momentos, afora a introdução, que traz elementos que anunciam o problema e sua resolução. Assim, o primeiro momento, traz a constituição de uma comissão para pensar o plano; o segundo momento, de reunião com a diretoria da empresa; terceiro momento, reunião que apresenta os dilemas e as tensões do caso e o quarto momento, com os encaminhamentos das decisões da personagem principal. Os dados para compor esse caso foram a partir da experiência da autora em pesquisa e consultoria em RH, especialmente no setor educacional. Esse caso tem o objetivo de contribuir para a área de RH com os temas cargos e salários, carreiras e cultura organizacional. Afora isso, associar cultura organizacional ao tema cargos e salários é o desafio desse caso de ensino. Esse caso destina-se a estudantes de graduação ou pós-graduação nas áreas de gestão empresarial e de recursos humanos.
