El texto ofrece una revisión actual de los principales desafíos pedagógicos que han de afrontar los sistemas educativos contemporáneos en sus currículos, como consecuencia de los procesos de globalización en los que estamos involucrados. El artículo plantea cómo todo ello ha de afectar a los discursos y a las prácticas de la educación ambiental, como una estrategia curricular organizada en itinerarios duales y controvertidos que planteen abiertamente la dualidad entre singularidad y universalidad, entre identidad y alteridad, entre localidad y globalidad. Todo ese planteamiento se encuadra en un marco en el que la educación encierra la responsabilidad de reivindicar el cambio y de estimular la crítica social.
