Abstract
En 1974, se recogió en un libro editado por Michelle Zimbalist Rosaldo y Louise Lamphere, las ponencias sobre género que habían sido presentadas en una mesa sobre “mujeres, hombres, cultura y sociedad” en el Congreso de la American Anthropological Association de 1972, celebrado en Toronto. De ellas, las tres primeras tuvieron una gran resonancia por su intento de explicar el universal de la dominación masculina. Michelle Rosaldo (1974) planteaba un modelo estructural que aunaba aspectos de la psicología, la organización social y cultural relacionándolos con la oposición entre lo público y lo privado. Sherry Ortner (1974), con una orientación influenciada por el estructuralismo de Lévi-Strauss, estudiaba los paralelismos entre las dicotomías hombre / mujer y naturaleza / cultura; mientras Nancy Chodorow (1974) se centraba en las relaciones y estructura familiar desde una perspectiva más psicológica con influencia de los planteamientos freudianos.
