« L'individu est le produit d'une histoire dont il cherche à devenir le sujet » . Cette formulation pose un certain nombre de problèmes théoriques, en particulier sur la nature du déterminisme historique qui la sous-tend : de quelle histoire s'agit-il ? Que signifie être le produit d'une histoire ? Qu'est-ce qui fonde cette loi de production et de reproduction ? Qu'est-ce qui anime cette quête du sujet ? L'ordre généalogique conduit chaque individu à sortir du magma familial par un double principe d'identification et de différenciation. Un travail sur l'arbre généalogique permet de comprendre en quoi l'histoire est agissante en soi et de prendre conscience des impasses et des contradictions qui peuvent conduire certains à ne pas vouloir transmettre.
