Abstract
Alors que le début du XXe siècle tend vers une intériorisation de l’aventure qui en diminue la prégnance au sein du réel, Albert Cohen choisit, avecSolal, de s’opposer à tout ce qui pourrait ressembler à une forme ou une autre de littérature de l’épuisement. Faisant du héros qu’est Solal le pivot du romanesque, ce récit tente le pari risqué de maintenir ensemble toutes les formes possibles de l’aventure : épique, chevaleresque, amoureuse, sociale, mythique, biblique, imaginaire, discursive, symbolique… Avec ce roman, Cohen multiplie, pour les essayer et les mettre à l’épreuve, les modèles intertextuels de l’aventure pour en refonder les possibilités. Dans ce jeu de tous les excès, c’est bien une autre façon de concevoir le roman qui est en germe et qui livrera tous ses fruits avec le chef-d’oeuvre de l’auteur,Belle du Seigneur.
