Abstract
Alors qu’une partie de l’anthropologie et de l’historiographie actuelle, arrimée à la psychanalyse, fait des révolutionnaires français des êtres de pulsions violentes et mortifères, cet article veut montrer que non seulement les révolutionnaires sont capables de retenue de la violence mais que leur amour de la Déclaration des droits de l’homme et du citoyen est nouée à un amour de la vie comme belle journée de la vie et comme vie politique. En s’appuyant sur le journal révolutionnaireLe moniteur universel,cet article montre que les révolutionnaires français ont désiré une révolution non violente, qu’ils l’ont réfléchi, préparé et agi dans des lieux du politique où la politisation a été particulièrement intense. Textes pétitionnaires et fêtes civiques témoignent de cet amour du droit qui ne dissocie pas les émotions de la raison.
