Traduire n'est pas un jeu d'enfant ! Et pourtant, comment ne pas y voir dans toutes les cultures crites l'archtype d'une activit de dchiffrement au coeur de l'apprentissage ? Parce qu'elle confre une nouvelle transparence au texte de dpart dont elle cherche rsoudre l'nigme fondamentale, la traduction semble nous ramener aux premiers temps de la lecture, au moment o la phrase, dans l'inintelligibilit de son mystre, offre au regard de l'enfant sa douce matrialit. Dans son dsir de joindre le pass et le prsent, le traducteur lutte contre les conventions linguistiques et les ingalits historiques inscrites dans les langues qui se jouxtent devant lui, sans pouvoir chapper entirement l'emprise des lieux communs et aux processus d'vacuation du sens qu'ils enclenchent. En aval comme en amont, les textes naissent donc quelque part. Et c'est de ce quelque part qu'il faut rendre compte.
