Eugene O’Neill is honored as the “father of American drama”. Therefore, he has been a subject of more discussions than any other American playwright. As a serious modern dramatist, O’Neill pays much attention to the internal world of the modern men and tries to externalize their deep feelings and desires with various techniques, such as expressionistic techniques, realistic techniques, naturalistic techniques and so on. This paper just attempts to explore the naturalistic features in his plays. Through the analysis, the author of this paper hopes that the readers can have a deeper understanding of O’Neill’s thoughts and his works. Keywords: Eugene O’Neill, naturalistic features, analysis Resume Le pere du theatre americain Eugene O'nell a entrepris des explorations dans toute sa carrieres artistique, il n’a cesse de creer de divers genres dramatiques et de mettre en application toutes sortes de procedes de creation comme le realisme, le naturalisme, le symbolisme et l’expressionnisme pour tenter de demontrer le monde psychologique complexe des occidentaux modernes et leur destinee tragique inevitable. Son habilete dans l’utilisation des procedes expressionnistes fait de lui le plus grand dramaturge de l’ecole expressionniste des Etats-Unis, il acquiert ainsi le renom du “ grand maitre de l’expressionnisme”. Depuis longtemps, beaucoup de lecteurs et critiques pretent plutot attention a ses techniques expressionnistes et negligent la couleur naturaliste de son oeuvre. En fait, ses premiers et derniers ouvrages sont pleins d’empreintes naturalists. Cet article vise a mettre en lumiere l’oeuvre d’ Eugene O'nell's dans la perspective naturaliste afin de permettre aux lecteurs de mieux comprendre son oeuvre et d’approfondir la comprehension sur les themes de son creation. Mots-cles: Eugene O'nell's, naturalisme, explication 摘 要 美國戲劇之父尤金•奧尼爾一生勇於探索,敢於在藝術上獨闢蹊徑,他不斷開拓各種戲劇體裁,廣泛實踐包括現實主義、自然主義、象徵主義以及表現主義等各種創作手法 , 力圖展示現代西方社會人們複雜而深刻的內心世界和他們不可避免的悲劇命運。由於他在許多劇作中對表現主義技巧的成功運用,使他成為美國表現主義戲劇流派藝術成就最高的戲劇家,被稱為“表現主義大師”。長期以來,很多讀者和評論者較多地關注了奧尼爾劇作中的表現主義技巧,而忽視了其劇作中的自然主義色彩。事實上,奧尼爾早期和晚期的劇作中充滿了自然主義色彩,本文擬對奧尼爾的劇作進行自然主義解讀,以使讀者更加全面地理解奧尼爾的作品,深化對奧尼爾的創作思想的認識。 關鍵詞:尤金•奧尼爾;自然主義;解讀
