Abstract
The system of mental health services has reached a turning point Two reforms and numerous developments have left their mark on society as well as on available services. Today, it appears necessary to refocus intervention around an integration of the life of individuals living in society, who suffer from a mental handicap. The author's approach isolates the concept of trajectory, defined as the result of a progressive decline of opportunities to live fully. Consequently, the trajectory leads the individual into unproductive environments from the point of view of both social integration and utilization of services. Examined are the possible causes and the mechanisms of such a diminution in order to fuel the debate on the purpose of intervention and the organization of services.
